Watch it launch live in 10-15 minutes (7:05pm EST) , video above. Through this mission we hope to uncover some of the secrets to how asteroids played a part in bringing the building blocks of life to Earth. NASA is going to send a Robotic Spacecraft to a speeding asteroid named, Bennu. Bennu is on NASA’s Potentially Hazardous Asteroid list, it has a 1/2500 chance of crashing into earth in around 100 years. In 2018 the spacecraft will reach Bennu and begin to study the asteroid, in 2020 it will lower itself down and a robotic “vacuum cleaner” type probe will suck up 2 ounces of material. It will arrive back on earth on September 24th, 2023 when the payload is dropped back into Earths atmosphere.
